High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Booral Public School, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is an integral part of our everyday teaching practice. Many of our students demonstrate high potential, and we are committed to nurturing that potential into meaningful achievement.

  • Our teachers carefully identify each student’s learning needs within the classroom and apply evidence-based teaching strategies to challenge and extend their abilities. We offer a range of learning pathways, including enrichment, extension programs, and opportunities for acceleration.
  • Our supportive classroom environments foster a strong sense of belonging and encourage students to take risks, be creative, and collaborate with their peers.
  • Groupings are flexible, students take on leadership roles, and feedback is focused on strengths, with clear goals and opportunities for self-assessment.
  • Our teaching staff engage in ongoing professional learning to effectively meet the diverse needs of all students, including those who are high potential and gifted learners.
Across our school

Beyond the classroom, students have opportunities to develop their potential across all domains:

  • Intellectual: Rystem, STEM and coding programs and external competitions.
  • Creative: Music and dance programs with opportunities to participate in regionally organised music programs through the Arts Unit.
  • Social/Emotional: Buddies program and SRC and school leadership.
  • Physical: Gala days, PSSA trials, PSSA Soccer, netball and tennis teams, school swimming program, and sport-specific coaching from external coaches.

Our teachers also engage in ongoing professional learning to ensure they can meet the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners.

Across NSW
Our students also take part in state-wide opportunities offered through the NSW Department of Education. These experiences allow them to extend their learning and connect with peers across the state.
